ADB-Japan Scholarship Program Benefits 2025:

  • The full tuition fee will be covered by the ADB-Japan scholarship.
  • The scholars will be provided with a monthly subsistence and housing allowance.

Eligibility Criteria of the ADB Japan Scholarship Program 2025:

  • The candidate must be a citizen of an ADB member state or a Japanese ODA scholarship-eligible country.
  • The candidates must have been admitted to the University of Tokyo Japan for a master’s program.
  • The candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with an excellent academic record.
  • The candidate must have 2 years of professional experience after completion of the degree program.
  • The candidates must be proficient in English.
  • The candidate must not be more than 35 years of age. However, for the programs that are appropriate for senior officials and managers, the age limit is 45 years.
  • If the candidate is an employee or has an immediate relationship with the ADB employee he/she can not apply.
  • The candidate must be in good health and can move to Tokyo for studies.
  • The candidate who is not living or working in his/her own home country, he/she can not apply.
  • The candidates must be agreed on a return to their home countries after the completion of the program.
  • The candidate must maintain an exceptional academic record to continue the scholarship for the second year.

How to Apply for the ADB Scholarship Program 2025?

  • The candidates must apply to the University of Tokyo for a desired master’s program.
  • The candidates have to be mentioned for consideration for the ADB scholarship.
  • The ADB JSP information sheet form must also be sent to the University of Tokyo.
  • The candidates have to submit their proof of income, tax returns, or proof of family income.
  • Tokyo University will rank the applicants and send the details to the ADB.

  • The application procedure for the Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program at GSFS (the University of Tokyo) is divided into 5 main steps.
  1. The first step is to check eligibility (details are provided above).
  2. Then send the set of complete applications by the specified deadline.
  3. The University of Tokyo verifies the qualifications of international students from December to February.
  4. GSFS will nominate international candidates who have submitted all the required documents. Only successful candidates have to submit the required documents.
  5. ADB-JSP will notify the university about the selection in May 2025.
  • Before filing an application to GSFS, applicants should make sure to find a supervisor who wish to be supervised in the field of Environmental Studies or GPSS-GLI.
  • Moreover, if they did not contact any supervisor or did not get any response from any of the supervisors by the time of application, they are still able to submit an application. Applicants may provide a list of up to five preferable supervisors.
  • Carefully complete the online application form, ensuring that all data and information provided are valid and accurate.
  • Initially, students are required to apply for the ADB Scholarship. Once the scholarship is granted, they can proceed to apply for admission at the University of Tokyo, Japan.
  • Recommendation letters must be submitted to the International Liaison Office directly from recommenders by email before 10 December 2024. The email title should be “ADB recommendation letter Name” (candidate’s name).
  • The selection committee will announce the result of the first screening after 10 December 2024.
  • Selected candidates will be requested to submit original copies of the required documents.
  • Students will enroll for the course of their interest at GSFS. The autumn semester starts on 1st October 2025.
