The monthly online event where competitors demonstrate their skill at reciting the Quran, the sacred book of Islam, is called a Qir’at competition. The Arabic term “qir’at” describes the elegant and accurate reciting of the Quranic verses, adhering to the Tajweed (Quranic recitation standards) and using appropriate pronunciation and intonation.
The Competition was set up to motivate the youth to compete with each other in the fields of Hifz, Naazira, and Qira’at. The purpose of the Competition is to build and strengthen the relationship between Qur’an and the youth.
These contests aim at encouraging the conservation and support for the Quran memorization tradition; encourage Muslims toward the reading process, develop nearness and respect for this Muslim’s Book from their members of faith; thus, recitors often possess vast knowledge regarding specific techniques through completion in categories.
Judges grade participants on standards such as accuracy, fluency, and adherence to Tajweed. Participants may also be graded on how well they can appropriately and authentically convey the meanings of the passages. The competitions, which reach competitors of all kinds of backgrounds, can be at a local, national, or international level.
Such assemblages conserve the oral heritage of passing the Quran from generation to generation apart from providing an avenue for manifesting the eloquence of the Quranic recitation. The competitions for qir’at are significant religious and cultural events that highlight the importance of Quran recitation both with precision and dedication.
