Light-Independent Phase (Calvin Cycle)
The Calvin Cycle is the light-independent phase, also known as photosynthesis. It does not require light directly but happens in the stroma of the chloroplast, using the ATP and NADPH generated during the light-dependent phase. Carbon dioxide is then fixed into organic molecules. It includes the steps of carbon fixation, reduction phase, and regeneration of RuBP. The end product is glucose that can be utilized by the plant for energy or stored as starch.
