Another very common parasitic disease is malaria. The disease is transferred through an infected mosquito, transferred through a bite. There are symptoms associated with malaria such as fever, chills, and anemia that if left unattended can cause severe complications. Examples of parasitic diseases also include leishmaniasis-the protozoan parasite Leishmania, which is transmitted by infected sandflies. Its symptoms include skin ulcers, fever, and damage to the internal organs.

The causative pathogen of giardiasis is the protozoan Giardia lamblia, which causes gastrointestinal symptoms, such as diarrhea and abdominal pain. Schistosomiasis is an infection caused by trematode worms of the genus Schistosoma developing after contact with contaminated freshwater, and may lead from a simple skin rash to damage to the liver.

Such diseases caused by lice and fleas lead to itching, secondary infections, and in extreme conditions, anemia.
