The iPhone 14 Pro Max was the best-selling smartphone of 2023. Most of you won’t be surprised by that detail. It’s interesting to see that the iPhone 15 Pro Max came quite close to winning. 33 million iPhone 15 Pro Max devices and 34 million iPhone 14 Pro Max units were sold by Apple.
With just three months to its name since its September launch, the iPhone 15 Pro Max achieved those kind of results. Based on these figures, it actually did a pretty good job.
If you’d like, you may view the complete list directly below this text. As was already established, Apple’s two “Pro Max” devices occupy the top two positions, but Apple really occupies the top five.
This accomplishment is all the more remarkable considering that it was Apple’s most recent Pro Max models, not the company’s more affordable 6.1-inch Pro models, that grabbed the top spots in the year when an iPhone Pro model led worldwide shipments for the first time. This implies a calculated move on the part of Apple, emphasizing the features of the Pro Max line above those of the Pro line and adding to the widening gap between the two.
It’s clear that Apple’s most costly model delivers more than simply a larger version of the ordinary Pro when comparing the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Exclusive features of the Pro Max include a 5x optical zoom in addition to benefits including a larger screen, longer battery life, and other improvements. Interestingly, the base iPhone 15 Pro Max has 256GB of storage, which is more than the 128GB in the standard Pro.
The regular iPhone 13, 14, and 15 are not far behind in terms of shipments, even if Apple’s flagship models dominate the pack. To add some variation, the list also includes three Android phones. The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G and, perhaps surprisingly, the Samsung A14 4G are among them. The latter is a more costly model, breaking with the custom of lower-cost Samsung phones typically topping the list of Android device shipments each year.
With 29 million sold, the iPhone 14 comes in third place. In 2023, Apple also sold 29 million iPhone 14 Pro units, placing the iPhone 13 in sixth place with 23 million sales.
With the Galaxy A14 4G taking sixth place, Samsung is ending Apple’s run of dominance at that position. With 21 million sold, the iPhone 15 Pro comes in eighth place, with the Galaxy A54 5G coming in second.
The Galaxy A14 5G is the ninth-place smartphone made by Samsung. That phone was sold by Samsung in 19 million units. The iPhone 15, which has sold 17 million copies, rounds out the top 10.
As you can see, every flagship product from Samsung is absent from this list. Additionally, the fact that Apple and Samsung are the only two firms included here simply serves to highlight how dominating they still are.
